The one-bit noise correlation: a theory based on the concepts of coherent and incoherent noise

چکیده
S U M M A R Y Waveforms emerging from correlations of long seismic noise records are extensively used to investigate the crustal and upper-mantle structure of the Earth. To remove the non-stationary events that inevitably lie in seismic records, the so-called one-bit normalization is commonly applied to the noise data. This processing consists of replacing each sample of a record by its sign. Although it is a strong non-linear operation, it preserves the phase of the signal emerging from correlation. Some recent studies show that information can also be extracted from the amplitude of such correlations. In this paper, we develop a theory to understand these non-intuitive results. A statistical approach is used to get an expression of the one-bit noise correlation. This expression involves the standard deviations of coherent and incoherent noise. These two kinds of noise are precisely defined, and explicit expressions of their standard deviations are given in the case of a uniform distribution of noise sources generating surface waves on a layered half-space. In this case, we show that the one-bit noise correlation has the same phase and relative amplitude as the raw noise correlation. This is true in both elastic and anelastic media. Numerical simulations are performed to support our theory.

The effect of superposition of 900 MHz and incoherent noise electromagnetic fields on the induction of reactive oxygen species in SP2/0 cell line
Background: Induction of cellular response after exposure to electromagnetic fields is limited to coherent fields. An incoherent noise field is supposed to suppress the bioeffects of regular RF electromagnetic fields. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of GSM mobile phone-induced radiofrequency (RF) on the induction of oxidative stress in SP2/0 cell line. Materials and Meth...
متن کاملA New Method for Speech Enhancement Based on Incoherent Model Learning in Wavelet Transform Domain
Quality of speech signal significantly reduces in the presence of environmental noise signals and leads to the imperfect performance of hearing aid devices, automatic speech recognition systems, and mobile phones. In this paper, the single channel speech enhancement of the corrupted signals by the additive noise signals is considered. A dictionary-based algorithm is proposed to train the speech...
متن کاملImpulsive Noise Elimination Considering the Bit Planes Information of the Image
Impulsive noise is one of the imposed defectives degrades the quality of images. Performance of many image processing applications directly depends on the quality of the input image. Hence, it is necessary to de-noise the degraded images without losing their valuable information such as edges. In this paper we propose a method to remove impulsive noise from color images without damaging the ima...
متن کاملThe Signal and Noise Analysis of Direct Conversion EHM Transceivers
A direct conversion modulator-demodulator with even harmonic mixers with emphasis on noise analysis is presented. The circuits consist of even harmonic mixers (EHMs) realized with antiparallel diode pairs (APDPs). We evaluate the different levels of I/Q imbalances and DC offsets and use signal space concepts to analyze the bit error rate (BER) of the proposed transceiver using M-ary QAM schemes...
متن کاملNoise Pollution and Traffic Noise Index on Mashhad Main Streets during the Busiest Hours of Summer
Introduction: Among the environmental pollutions, noise is very important for its physiological and psychological effects on human. Traffic noise is one of the most important pollutants and the hospitals are one of the critical places regarding this type of noise. For these reasons, in the summer of 1382, the traffic noise of Mashhad main streets around the hospit...
